The Jacksonville Naval Air Station VP-30 Retrofit saw the removal of the existing bottom rolling hangar doors that were originally installed by Door Engineering. These doors could not withstand the use and ultimately became so damaged that they were inoperative. Once the original doors were removed, the need was to retrofit the aircraft hangar and supply new hangar doors with advanced technology.
The general contractor, HCR, chose WELL BILT Industries to fabricate the doors because of our cutting edge engineering of quality doors that withstand the conditions that the Door Engineering hangar doors simply could not. The new doors consisted of 10 individually operated door panels with controls on each end of the door. The overall length of the hangar door system was 583’ wide by 50’ tall. This hangar door system was powered with the use of five conductor trolleys; each trolley powered two individual hangar doors.
“The project was not the typical hangar door project,” stated Mark MacDonald, Vice President of Pperations at WELL BILT Industries. “Each phase of the project had a set of challenges that were met head on with our manufacturing team.”
One of the largest obstacles WELL BILT faced was providing the paint finish system that met both the job specifications the delivery time frame. Due to unseasonal weather, the three-part high performance paint system saw its cure time doubled. In addition to this, the general contractor was behind in procurement and submittal approvals. This made the project a true challenge for our team, but we were able to come together and complete the project in a timely, yet careful and successful, manner.
The finished project is a testament to the high quality hangar that WELL BILT Industries can manufacture under pressure with cards stacked against us. Since the 1980s, WELL BILT Industries is the premier manufacturer of aircraft hangar doors of all shapes and sizes, from bottom rolling hangar doors for the military to small hydraulic or bifold doors for your personal air force. WELL BILT Industries has the right hangar door for your need.
